the ypac is dead, long live the ypac

10 schools from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Switzerland sent their delegations to meet in Herisau (Switzerland) for five days for the Youth Parliament of the Alpine Convention (YPAC) 2011. This year’s YPAC was organized by the Kantonsschule Trogen (CH).

80 pupils in the age of 14 to 18 took part as delegates of the committees or as members of the press group. The Youth Parliament was headed by three presidents, eight committee presidents and three editors in chief, all former participants of earlier editions of the YPAC.

The YPAC was founded in 2006 and has since taken place every year with a growing number of member schools. The accompanying coordination team consists of permanent teachers from those schools and is constantly contributing to the quality of the YPAC. In this regard a partnership with CIPRA (Commission Internationale pour la Protection des Alpes) was started.

Last year’s umbrella topic was ‘Traffic in the Alpine region’. In that context, the young students developed several resolutions containing creative and innovative approaches to deal with the growing traffic problem.

In the name of the youth and in particular of this year’s participants we would be very pleased if you might consider skimming through the results.

We are happily awaiting the YPAC 2012 in Vaduz (FL).

supported by locals

Dear visitor, dear participants of the YPAC 2011 in Herisau

The organisation of the following youth parliament is supported by many local institutions and companies. We are astonished by the ongoing willingness to help young people sharing their ideas about a better world – at least considering the “Alpine Traffic”.

We just wanted let you know that there are only few steps to take to make this YPAC unforgettable…

sustainability

It is very important that the participants keep in mind that they are obliged to follow sustainable approaches.

Sustainability isn’t just a phrase that people need to follow because of their reputation. It has to be a philosophy of how to deal with contemporary local, regional and international challenges.

That’s why over 70 pupils join the YPAC 2011 in Herisau! And that’s a very good reason.
